The Alcatraz Challenge

San Francisco, California

This swim is the stuff of legends. I did a lot of training and prepartion for this race because it actually scared me. I have to admit that I had trouble sleeping the night before. The cold water, the strong currents, the sharks, the distance, and let's not forget that people have actually died doing this swim. An unforgettable experience! It is really something to breath to your right and see the Golden Gate Bridge, and then breath to your left and see the Bay Bridge. It is almost hard to beleive that you are really swimming in San Francisco Bay. This race is put on by Tri California and they did a awesome job. I thought the breifing was very thorough. The swag was great and I think most people appreciate that because this is once race I like to tell people about. We all got a bag, a sweatshirt, a knit cap and the right to tell people we swam Alcatraz for the rest of our lives.

Chula Vista Community Fun Run

Chula Vista, California

My son and I wanted to run this 5K because the race takes place inside the United States Olympic Training Facility in Chula Vista California. It was a neat experience to get to run through the Olympic Training Facility alongside some Olympic athletes. We also got to run past fields where Olympic athletes were training. Running a portion of the race on the Olympic training track was also cool. Fun stuff. This race is genourously sponsored by Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.

Seville Sports Club Triathlon

Gilbert, Arizona

The Tri-Family Racing Events are great. They are well run events. If you have children who love to participate like my son, there is always a kids race with lots of kids. The Tri-Family Racing events are also held at great locations. The Seville Country Club is no exception and has a fantastic pool facility.

Verrado Sports Club Triathlon

Verrado, Arizona

This race was put on by Tr-Family Racing at the Verrado Sports Club. Unfortunately I had to scratch out of this race due to my finger dislocation in a previous race. I attend the event to watch son compete. He did very well and placed 1st in his his division. They give out great medals. The event was held at a very nice facility. The community has a little town square with shops and a neighborhood grocery store that made me want to move in.

Open Water 2,000 Meter Wetsuit Division

Saguaro Lake, Arizona

2000 meters is about 1.2 miles. I am kind of proud of the fact that I placed 1st in my division in this race. Especially since I dislocated a finger on a cement pylon during the race. Always remember that it is extremely important to lift your head occasionally and make sure you are sighting properly when you are swimming in open water. If you don't, you might embarrass yourself and swim into a pylon. Luckily for me the water was still in the 60's and my hand was cold enough not to hurt very bad. This race was put on by DCB Extreme Adventures and they ran a good event. I was also very grateful for the help that they gave me.
